The latest generation of Ironmaster's adjustable dumbbells, the 75-pound Quick-Lock dumbbell system offers the versatility of 30 dumbbell pairs in the space of one. The system is built around a Quick-Lock handle design, which lets you add or remove plates with just a partial turn of the locking screws. That means you can easily adjust the dumbbells from 5 to 75 pounds in 2.5-pound increments, giving you a ton of weight combinations for both light toning exercises and heavy strengthening routines. The dumbbells also lock up tight--with no rattling or looseness--so they feel just like a traditional fixed-weight dumbbell. And thanks to the chrome-plated steel handles and knurled grips, the dumbbells are comfortable and secure in the hand, with no restrictions in the ways you can grip them.
The Ironmaster Quick-Lock dumbbell system includes a full-size stand that accommodates both the 75-pound dumbbells and the 120-pound add-on kit (sold separately). The stand is strong and compact at just 14.5 by 26 by 19 inches (W x H x D), and includes rubber leveling feet to keep things stable. Best of all, the heavy-duty dumbbells themselves measure only 14.5 by 6.5 by 6.5 inches--far less than a traditional set of two- or three-dozen dumbbells.

After years of collecting the old standard hex dumbells, and trying to maintain a home gym in the city in various apartments (usually in the common basement) I found the PowerBlock dumbells. For someone without a dedicated room (with lots of space) for their workout equipment, these are fantastic dumbells. They go up to 85 or 90lbs without the add-on kit, and they are super fast and easy to change the weight. They are pricey, but considering the amount of dumbells they replace, well worth it, for the right user. After using the PowerBlock setup for a couple years I came across IronMaster, another brand with adjustable dumbells. They go to 75lbs without the add-on kit, and cost a little less than the PowerBlock dumbells. I have BOTH in my home gym now, and I will go over the pros and cons of each for those of you trying to decide on a set up like this. These dumbells lock up as tight as solid gym DBs, so they can be used safely and quietly for explosive work like full-body swings. They have perfectly proportioned handles that comfortably accommodate one and two-handed work, and compact square plates that are heavier than they look. Asymetrical loading for leverage work is easy and stable. The wide, flat inner permanent collars and big, flat-head, quick-lock pins make them comfortable in many positions not possible with other models: Horizontally and vertically, they're stable on the floor, and the ends can be held with palms up, between feet, knees, thighs for a great variety of movements.
