The Power Pak dumbbells--which adjust from 4 to 45 pounds in 5-pound increments--work just like a weight stack at the gym. I can't comment on the longevity yet. I've only had it for the better part of a day. I'm pretty hard on weight equipment (God help a coated hex bell if it finds it's way to my home), and will update this review if anything comes up. The only thing that has me concerned is the trays that the weights have to be returned to. They're made of thick plastic. Someone in the comments from a previous review had mentioned being worried about the plastic handles. They seem really well made to me and I don't expect any issues. Typically, you'd find me in the gym doing squats, dead lifts, pull ups, etc - but I was injured in a motorcycle accident this summer. My bones are healing slowly and I can't lift heavy. This set came up on a Lightning Deal pre-Christmas and I jumped. I'm glad I did. These dumbbells are easily adjustable. Putting the kit together was the hardest part - the bolts require a 16mm wrench or socket. The set comes with a cheesy flat 'wrench' that's very difficult to use with out sliding it down (or up) off the bolt while fighting gravity and turning the bolt with the included Allen wrench. If you have a socket set with a 16mm socket, it will be a breeze to put the stand together.The dumbbells themselves are SLIGHTLY off center requiring some concentration to keep them aligned.
